Pim van Lommel MD
He is a world-renowned Cardiologist and Medical expert on near-death experiences. For more than twenty-five years, he has worked as a cardiologist at Rijnstate Hospital (The Netherlands), where he began studying near-death experiences in patients who survived cardiac arrest. In 2001, his large-scale prospective study was published in the distinguished British medical journal, The Lancet. Over the past several years, he has lectured worldwilde on near-death experiences and the relationship between consciousness and brain function. In 2007, the first (Dutch) edition of his bestseller “Consciousness beyond life: The science of the near-death experience” was published and nominated for the “Book of the Year 2008” in the Netherlands. The English translation, published in 2010, received the “2010 Book Award” from the Scientific and Medical Network. The book has been translated into 11 languages, with more than 400,000 copies sold worldwide.

He co-founded the Dutch International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS) in 1988. In 2005, he was granted the Dr. Bruce Greyson Research Award by IANDS. In 2006, the President of India awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Congress on Clinical and Preventive Cardiology in New Delhi.
